Communities in The Isles of Notre Dame to Receive Health Care Funding
Support for community health care continues throughout the province as the Honourable Jerome Kennedy, Minister of Health and Community Services, announced over $1.2 million for equipment and repairs in health care facilities located in Twillingate, New World Island, Fogo Island and Change Islands. Minister Kennedy was joined in Twillingate today by Derrick Dalley, MHA for The Isles of Notre Dame and Heather Brown, Vice-President of Rural Health, Central Health.
“For residents living in the rural parts of our province, frontline health care often begins in the communities they call home,” said Minister Kennedy. “It is vital to maintain and update structures and equipment in the communities located in this region so that we sustain a consistent and high level of care for the users of our health care system.” Continue Reading >>
Minister Highlights Major School Infrastructure Projects in Isles of Notre Dame
With over $2 million being invested in school infrastructure in the Isles of Notre Dame, students, teachers and staff will soon benefit from enhanced learning facilities. The Honourable Darin King, Minister of Education, visited several schools in the region today and participated in a ground-breaking ceremony for the new extension to New World Island Academy. He was joined by Derrick Dalley, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Education and MHA for the Isles of Notre Dame.

Province Invests $11,860 in the Isles of Notre Dame Heritage
A total of $11,860 in operational support has been provided to heritage organizations in the Isles of Notre Dame region through the province’s Cultural Economic Development Program.
“The Provincial Government recognizes the importance of preserving and promoting our heritage, and the efforts of community-based groups to safeguard our history and traditions,” said the Honourable Terry French, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation. “This investment will continue to support those efforts to the benefit of residents and visitors alike.”

Stag Harbour Rink to Get $10,500 Upgrade
A recreational facility in Stag Harbour, which has been inoperable for several years, is getting a new lease on life, thanks in part to the provision of $10,500 from the Provincial Government’s Community Capital Grant Program (CCGP).
“The outdoor rink, once a social hub within the community, had fallen into disrepair, and we were pleased to be able to help get it back in working order,” said the Honourable Terry French, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation. “A facility such as this can serve as an integral component of outdoor physical, recreational and social activities in a community.”

Twillingate Resident Craig Clarke Honoured as 2010 RBC Local Hockey Leaders For Newfoundland & Labrador
Craig Clarke, a tireless hockey volunteer in Twillingate, will be recognized in the Hockey Hall of Fame for years of service to his community.
Craig is this year’s RBC Local Hockey Leader winner for Newfoundland, one of 13 volunteers (one for each Hockey Canada branch) recognized today by RBC Insurance, with support from Hockey Canada and the Hockey Hall of Fame. The winners, who will also receive a signed Team Canada jersey, were chosen from hundreds of nominations received from across the country.
Craig will be honoured in a special presentation today (May 10, 2010) at 4:00 at the George Hawkins Arena. Craig Clarke and Gander RBC Branch Manager, Brent Aitken will be available to meet with media.
